Veterans Day Brought to Life
This Veterans Day, the students at Midreshet Shalhevet were surprised by a very different type of speaker than they are used to. Instead of a person addressing them, First Lieutenant Ryan Plowman of the 82nd Airborne Skyped in to the girls. Calling from his home in Savannah, Georgia, Lt. Plowman, a current U.S. Army medic, took time on this day of memorial, to discuss with the students what daily life is like in the Army. He described his extensive and challenging training at Ranger Camp and his continued training as part of the armed services, his decision to join the Army, and what it's like to work as a medic. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions, and to put themselves in the shoes of a person who is willing to sacrifice for his country. Students were amazed at the kinds of challenges confronting members of the armed forces, not only in their army life but also in their personal life. I am sure the rest of the students and I will remember the messages of this speaker for years to come. Thank you Coach K for setting up the presentation, and thank you to Lt. Plowman for taking the time to speak to our students.
